Natural Resources Wales
Employer ProfileThe role
Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role? We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our Mid Wales Waste and Enforcement Team on a permanent basis as a Tackling Waste Crime Officer.
We’re looking for a confident and motivated individual with strong communication and influencing skills who can make a real impact.
This isn’t just another office job. You will be based in the Mid Wales but will work towards the Welsh Government’s Action Plan to tackle waste crime as part of a virtual, centrally organised team. You will contribute to innovative ways of identifying and tackling illegal waste crime across the area and Wales.
You will either lead or support investigations recommending the most appropriate interventions to take, gathering evidence for enforcement action, analysing data, solving complex problems.
You will be working with Mid Wales Waste Regulation and Enforcement Officers in relation to waste crime as well as partner organisations, such as police and DVSA.
You may be required to work out of area due to resource needs as prioritised by the Tackling Waste Crime Lead Specialist Advisor.
You’ll also respond swiftly and effectively to environmental incidents, including illegal waste activities, as part of NRW’s duty as a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act. Covering a large geographical area you will need to hold a valid full UK licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles (cars and vans).
This is a varied, fast-paced role where your decisions matter. Join us and be part of a team that’s making a real difference to Wales’ environment every day.
To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contract Jeremy Goddard; jeremy.goddard@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk.
Interviews will be conducted in-person at a venue to be confirmed in Mid Wales.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.
Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
