Executive Director for Technology and Innovation

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is seeking an exceptional Executive Director for Technology and Innovation to lead its digital transformation at a pivotal moment in its strategic journey. This is a unique opportunity to join the Executive Team of a high-impact public body that plays a vital role in safeguarding communities across the UK. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will shape and deliver a bold technology agenda that positions DBS as a leader in digital innovation across government.

As Executive Director, you will provide strategic leadership across all aspects of digital, data, and technology. You will oversee a £50 million transformation programme, modernising legacy systems, adopting best-in-class SaaS solutions, and embedding AI to enhance productivity and user experience. Your leadership will be instrumental in eliminating paper-based processes, strengthening cyber resilience, and ensuring DBS delivers secure, efficient, and user-centred services.

You will bring a strong track record of strategic technology leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, with deep expertise in digital transformation, information governance, and service delivery. Your ability to influence at the highest levels, including with Board members, suppliers, and government stakeholders, will be critical. You will also be a visible and values-led leader, committed to fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture across the organisation.

This role requires substantial experience in leading digital and technology functions, including cyber security, data strategy, and vendor management. Familiarity with government digital standards and a recognised qualification in information or cyber security (or a commitment to obtain one) is desirable.
