The role

Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role? We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our South Central Wales Waste Regulation and Enforcement Team as a Tackling Waste Crime Officer.

We’re looking for a confident and motivated individual with strong communication and influencing skills who can make a real impact.

You will be based in the South Central Wales but will work towards the Welsh Government’s Action Plan to tackle waste crime as part of a virtual, centrally organised team. You will contribute to innovative ways of identifying and tackling illegal waste crime across the area and Wales.

You will either lead or support investigations recommending the most appropriate interventions to take, gathering evidence for enforcement action, analysing data, solving complex problems.

You will be working with South Central Wales Waste Regulation and Enforcement Officers in relation to waste crime as well as partner organisations, such as police and DVSA. There may be a requirement to work out of area due to resource needs as prioritised by the Tackling Waste Crime Lead Specialist Advisor. Due to the nature of this role, you will have the skills and confidence to deal with physically demanding, challenging and sometimes confrontational situations.

You’ll also respond swiftly and effectively to environmental incidents, including illegal waste activities, as part of NRW’s duty as a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act. Covering a large geographical area in your daily duties, you will need to hold a valid full UK licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles (cars and vans).

This is a varied, fast-paced role where your decisions matter. Join us and be part of a team that’s making a real difference to Wales’ environment every day.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about the role please contact Eleanor Davies eleanor.davies@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
